Redlight - Get Out My Head + *Joker Remix*

Get Out My Head: Joker Remix Played by BBC radio DJ Annie Mac.
This mix has a much heavier bass take then the original.

Honestly... as the title specifies.... I cannot get this track 'Out of my head'!
I heard this track a little while back last November on the radio, and up until now, I'm still loving it. It has that 90's feel to it which I really love.

Quality bass music!

Gato Preto ‘Tschukudu EP’

Tschukudu EP (OUT NOW / Remixes by Flore,Access Denied,Hanuman Tribe) by Gato Preto

Kuduro/Baile Funk Hybrid by Lee Bass, female vocalist Gata Misteriosa and B’Crazy, create a brand new project called Gato Preto. (Check out above)
Their sounds are the perfect blend between African music and urban electronic styles as Moombathon, Bmore, Bailefunk or Dubstep or maybe even a blend of Kuduro and Favela House.

Listening to this heavy bass and Gata Misteriosa's hard Portuguese vocals, you won't be able to keep you feet still.
'Quality stuff for all the belly shakers!'

Enjoy.

La Vie Est Belle

Although at times I claim to be one side more than the other, I can not but love being a mix of two different African identities. I carry with me the wealth of music my parents embodied in me during my childhood.

With my mother being partially Congolese (Democratic Republic of Congo),and my dad being a huge fan of old school Congolese soukous and rumba, I grew up listening to the likes of Koffi Olamide, Pepe Kalle, Zaiko Langa Langa, Defao, OK Jazz, and Papa Wemba.

Speaking of the latter brings me to the reason behind this post.
I came home today to find my mum watching her favourite movie of all times. 'La Vie est Belle' French meaning for 'Life is Beautiful/Rosy' (similar to the title of this blog :))
It is a romantic comedy set in the DRC staring PAPA WEMBA and BIBI KRUBWA and follows the story of a gifted musician who travelled to the city with a aim of forming a Band, on arrival, He was greeted by a sight of a beautiful student BIBI KRUBWA who he soon encounter and immediately established friendship when he called in on a local Bar for a drink dressed in his boss expensive suit.

I remember when I was younger, watching the movie, mostly whilst getting my hair done (don't ask why lol). and listening to the sound tracks in the movie. Musicians like Papa Wemba only reminds me how musically rich Congo is. I swear, it's like every individual is embeded with music and dance in them.

I absolutely love this movie, both for its story line and the sound track, Everytime I watch it, it brings back good memories.

Defo a movie to watch.

Mixtape Tuesdays: Dj DJeff and Silyvi

I have to say...I'm obsessed. No lie. If its possible to fall for a Dj just from the music they make, then I guess I have.
You may have noticed by now that I am a big fan mixes which consist of traditional African melodies and contemporary House or Dub. And no one does it better than the Angolan duo Dj Djeff and Silyvi.

The following track Malembe Malembe, has this sweet African old school melody introduced into the soft house beat which I find soothing. The word Malembe comes form a dialect (Lingala) spoken in the northern provinces of Angola and in the main parts of Congo meaning 'take it easy/slow'.

Lil Kiss - Dale Mama

I predict a big year for Afro House in Angola this year.
Heres another one from Lil Kiss!

Angola: Beto De Almeida feat. Beybi Max - Balumuka

Till this day, I still love this Soukous inspired track by Irmaos De Almeida. I close my eyes when I hear this and remember all those African family parties we used to go to,,,,ahhhh Nostalgia!

Moving on.....
I love how Angola has adapted South African Afro House music, and one track in particular is a big time favourite of mine.
Recently one of 1/2 of Irmaos De Almeida cameout with his banger Balumuka feat Beybi Max, and you can just see how much he has evolved. Always a great Musician in my eyes.

I can only imagin how big this track was and still is in the capital Luanda!

What more can I say but......... Aiuéeeeeeeeeeeee

Shelby Da Mata - Nangayte

At first I wasn't too sure about this House/Kuduro track, but it has defo grown on me.
Sang in Lingala, Shelby Da Mata's Nangayete fuses Kuduro/House with congolese tongue!

What do you think?

UK: Yasmin ft Shy FX & Ms Dynamite

Lets talk UK bass!

Had to share this video with you guys!
This is the new video from Yasmin ft drum 'n' bass producer Shy FX and the legendary UK MC, Ms Dynamite, was shot in the Beautiful and soon to be visited by me, Cuba.
I first  heard the track on BBC 1 Xtra a little while back, but never caught the name of the artist....and now I know.
Its got that old school garage and reggae infused feel to it which I really love. And The video scenery goes perfectly well alongside it.
It's starting to feel like summer now! Wheres my Caipirinha at?!

Enjoy

Mixtape Tuesdays: Diplo

Theres something about Grammy nominated Diplo that I love love love.
He first hit the UK club scene with the replay track of Major Lazer - Pon De Floor

Major Lazer "Pon De Floor" ft. Vybz Kartel and... by DowntownMusic

And I am still not over the recent Major Lazer New Years Mix he did for BBC radio1, which is available to download.

MAJOR LAZER new years eve mix for @anniemacdj BBC radio 1 by diplo
I was educated on Diplo's skills, in mixing world bass with the likes of mainstream beats by my dear friend Boo! Coco! He is pretty much diverse in the music genres that I like, hitting in the likes of Hip Hop, Soul, Reggae, Dubstep, Electro and House.

He also previously teamed up with Dillon Francis and one of my fave latin divaresas' Maluca Mala to create the track 'Que, Que' which is a mix of Reggaeton and Electrical House.
Slightly annoying but a very catch one.

The good thing about Diplo is his diversity in his style of music, catering to most, and toying with world rhythms giving it a modern electric twist.
The future of music in my eyes.

True Divaresa..... MALUKA MALA!!!!

Latin Divaresa in my eyes, I got hooked on her music, style and personality from her first speedy electronic mambo track, 'El Tigareso', introduced to me by once again... Boo! Coco!

Her music style plays with traditional Latin rhythms with electronics and hits the likes of moombathon, merengue mash-ups, Kuduro and old school deep house,
I managed to download the China Food Mixtape a little while back and loved its energetic vibe.

Heres Jungle Violento and Florescent lights, two of my favourite tracks of the mix tape...

Hope to see and hear more of Divaresa Maluca Mala in 2012

Mixtape Tuesdays: DJ Jimmy Valencia

This is one pretty god damn good DJ, I must say.
Purely for the fact that he plays all the goodness that I love in Bass music from around the world.
He specialises in electronic house, world bass, and afro-tropical vibes such as kuduro.

I met him a little while back last summer at Bairro North in Angel, London.
Assuming the DJ will mostly likely not play tracks I'd request nor never hear in a main stream bar / club, he managed to hit the nail and then some.
He brings that tropical bass vibe that seems to be missing here in the UK and is a constant reminder for world bass lovers such a myself, that there are good DJ's just like him out there.

He has since jetted off to Brazil (talk about living the life) to grace them with his colourful vibes and I wish him the best of luck in his conquest.

Here below is his recent mixtape with full track list, Electro Dembow 3, which was exclusively released from Sao Paulo.
